What You Will Learn?

  • In this tutorial, you'll learn how to simulate a simple welding process in Abaqus using a thermal model. The video walks you through applying a Gaussian heat flux using the Dflux subroutine and adding material with the element birth technique scripted in Python. You'll also understand how to integrate FORTRAN subroutines with Abaqus, making this a practical introduction to thermo-mechanical modeling techniques commonly used in welding and additive manufacturing.

About Course

In this video, you will learn how to simulate a basic welding process in Abaqus, similar to additive manufacturing. The simulation uses a heat transfer model, where material is added using the element birth technique via Python scripting. A Gaussian heat flux is applied using the Dflux subroutine written in FORTRAN. To run the subroutine, Abaqus must be linked to Intel FORTRAN.
