In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to simulate the structural behavior of a human mandible with a miniplate and screws using Abaqus. First, CT scan images (DICOM format) are used to create a 3D model of the jawbone in MIMICS and 3-Matic. The model is then imported into SolidWorks, where the mandible, miniplate, and screws are assembled.
This assembly is brought into Abaqus for simulation. The material properties for bone and titanium are assigned, and contact conditions are defined with friction. A chewing force is applied to the molar area using an explicit step to analyze how the structure responds. The final result shows the stress distribution—especially von Mises stress—on the plate and jawbone.
