This tutorial covers the dynamic simulation of a four point bending test on a gravity beam in Abaqus. Gravity beams, a concept introduced here, are beam shapes designed using gravity and manufactured via Fabric Formwork. The beam is modeled as a 3D solid. Concrete’s complex quasi-brittle behavior is captured using the Concrete Damaged Plasticity model, which effectively represents tensile and compressive damage during bending. Both static and dynamic steps can be used for this analysis. Surface-to-surface contact is defined between the beam and the top rigid bodies, while ideal contact is used for the bottom rigid bodies. Appropriate boundary conditions and mesh settings are applied. The simulation provides results including stress, strain, tensile and compressive damage, and force-displacement data.
