This tutorial covers the dynamic compression simulation of a reinforced concrete (RC) column with an Ultra-High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) core in Abaqus. The concrete column and UHPFRC core are modeled as 3D solids, while steel bars and strips are modeled as 3D wire parts. Two rigid shells represent the loading member and boundary zone. UHPFRC, known for its high compressive strength, low permeability, and superior tensile strength compared to normal concrete, improves the durability and deformation capacity of RC columns. The Concrete Damaged Plasticity model captures tensile cracking and compressive crushing behavior. Both static and dynamic steps can be used. Ideal contact is assumed between the UHPFRC core and RC column, with steel reinforcements embedded inside the column. Appropriate boundary conditions and fine mesh ensure accurate results. Outputs include stress, strain, tensile and compressive damage, and force-displacement diagrams.
