Description

Product Overview:

In this video tutorial, we investigate the impact process between a steel sphere and a sand cube utilizing the Discrete Element Method (DEM) approach in ABAQUS. The sand cube is modeled as a three-dimensional part using DEM elements, where only density and damping properties are defined. The steel sphere is also represented as a three-dimensional solid element.

An explicit procedure is employed for this analysis, suitable for capturing the dynamic behavior of the impact. During the impact process, the sand particles redistribute as the steel ball penetrates, demonstrating the material’s response to the applied loads.

To define the contact interactions, we utilize the capability to edit the input file for enhanced control over the contact parameters. The simulation results illustrate the behavior of the sand cube under the steel ball’s impact.
