Description

Product Overview:

In this video, we explore the impact process using the Discrete Element Method (DEM) approach in ABAQUS. The simulation investigates the interaction between a sand or soil material and an aluminum plate. The sand is modeled as a three-dimensional part using DEM elements, where only the density is specified for the material. The aluminum plate is represented as a shell element.

An explicit procedure is used for this analysis, making it suitable for capturing the dynamic behavior during the impact event. Throughout the impact process, the sand redistributes upon contact with the surface of the plate, demonstrating the response of the granular material.

To define contact interactions accurately, we employ the capability of editing the input file.
