Product Overview:
This tutorial examines the simulation of a damaged concrete beam, featuring initial residual stresses and reinforced with a CFRP sheet, subjected to bending loads in Abaqus. The concrete beam is modeled as a three-dimensional solid component, while the CFRP sheet is represented as a three-dimensional shell part. In the first phase of the analysis, a four-point bending test is conducted. The resulting stress and damage data are then utilized as initial conditions for the second simulation involving the damaged beam.
For the initial analysis, a general static step is applied, incorporating modifications to enhance the convergence model. The results from this first simulation must be saved as an output file for utilization in the subsequent simulation. The load is applied across two zones of the beam, with boundary conditions fixed at both ends.
After completing the first simulation, a comprehensive set of results—including stress, strain, and both tensile and compressive damage—becomes available for further analysis. In the second simulation, the CFRP sheet is introduced to the damaged regions identified in the first simulation, and the previously acquired damage and residual stresses are employed as initial conditions for the beam. The addition of the CFRP is expected to enhance the performance of the beam in the damaged zones under equivalent or increased loads.
Upon concluding both simulations, results from each phase are readily accessible.
