Description

Product Overview:
This tutorial examines the simulation of embankment construction and excavation on saturated soil using Abaqus. The model uses a two-dimensional space to represent the ground and the embankment, which is defined as a shell element. Due to soil humidity, material properties such as permeability, elasticity, and Coulomb plasticity have been incorporated.

The analysis begins with a geostatic step to establish equilibrium between soil elements. Following this, three soil steps are applied to simulate the different stages of embankment construction, and a soil transient step is used as the first consolidation phase. After consolidation, three additional soil steps are utilized for the excavation stages, followed by another soil transient step for further consolidation. Appropriate body forces are applied to each component during the respective steps, and geostatic stress values are defined separately for dry and saturated soil based on elevation relative to the center of the coordinate system.

Key Topics:

  • Detailed step-by-step guide for creating the essential parts.
  • Material properties and loading applications that mimic real-world scenarios.
  • Strategies for managing potential pitfalls in embankment modeling.
