You will receive two types of ready-to-run Abaqus models:
Welding of a flat plate using butt welding
Welding of a pipe seam using linear welding with two different materials
The workflow is organized in two stages:
First, a transient heat transfer analysis is performed to simulate the welding process. The temperature results are exported in the ODB file.
Second, these temperature fields in the ODB file are applied as predefined fields in a separate static mechanical analysis. This allows you to obtain residual stresses, strains, and displacements caused by welding.
This course introduces engineering students, researchers, and FEA specialists to practical welding simulations in Abaqus. It focuses on thermal behavior, residual stress assessment, and techniques for running welding models without user subroutines such as Goldak or Gaussian heat sources. The material is structured in a straightforward way, making it accessible to beginners while still providing a realistic workflow for advanced users.
All steps, modules, and meshing have been fully prepared in advance. The models are completely set up and six fully prepared models are included ready to run in Abaqus 2024 without the need for any additional configuration or subroutines.
