Product Overview:
In this tutorial, we explore the dynamic simulation of a tensile test on a steel component subjected to axial deformation using Abaqus.
To accurately capture the failure behavior of the steel part, we utilize a model that incorporates shear and ductile damage evolution, paired with isotropic plasticity that depends on strain rate. The necessary material data is obtained from the Abaqus documentation. This modeling approach can be applied in both static and dynamic analyses; however, in this instance, we employ a dynamic explicit step to effectively observe damage progression and failure events. To accelerate the simulation, a mass scaling technique is utilized as a time target.
In the setup, the front and back faces of the steel component are treated as rigid surfaces, to which a displacement load is assigned. It is crucial to ensure that the mesh quality is particularly refined in the central region of the part for optimal results. Upon completion of the simulation, the occurrence of damage and separation within the material is evident.
