Dual-fiber laser treatment of the prostate has been widely accepted in clinical practice due to its minimal invasiveness and high controllability. However, for large tumors, multiple insertions of the laser probe are often required to achieve full coverage, increasing the complexity of the procedure and occasionally resulting in incomplete tumor cell ablation due to mismatches between the planned and actual insertion locations.
A finite element model was developed to simulate the treatment process. Simulation results clearly demonstrate a significant difference in ablation coverage between the dual-fiber laser and the superposition of two sequential single-fiber ablations.
