Product Overview:
This tutorial focuses on the simulation of a composite column consisting of a steel beam and concrete subjected to cyclic loading, utilizing Abaqus for analysis. In this setup, both the steel beam and concrete components are modeled as three-dimensional solid parts.
For the steel beam, an elastic-plastic material model is employed, incorporating a ductile damage criterion to effectively account for damage and potential failure during cyclic loading. The concrete is modeled using the Concrete Damaged Plasticity (CDP) approach, which helps in predicting both tensile and compressive damage responses. The simulation uses a general static step with ideal (or perfect) contact defined between the surfaces of the steel beam and the concrete column. The bottom side of the composite column is fixed, while a displacement boundary condition with a tabular amplitude is applied to the top side to implement the loading protocol. It is crucial to utilize a fine mesh, along with appropriate partitioning for both components, to achieve accurate results.
Upon completion of the simulation, various results become available for analysis, including tensile and compressive damage in the concrete, as well as stress and strain data for both the steel beam and the concrete.
